At Canadian Family Supports (CFS), we understand how difficult it can be when a loved one is struggling with a mental health condition. Families often feel lost, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to provide the right support. That’s why we’ve partnered with NAMI F2F Ontario—to bring families in Caledon/Bolton, Dufferin/Orangeville, and Wellington/Guelph a proven, free program that offers practical guidance, emotional support, and a path forward.
Through the NAMI Family-to-Family free course, family members, partners, and caregivers gain a deeper understanding of mental health conditions, learn effective communication and coping strategies, and find the strength to navigate challenges with confidence. This partnership ensures that families have access to the knowledge and community support they need to help their loved ones while also taking care of themselves. You don’t have to face this journey alone—help is available, you’re not alone.
About the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Course
The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Course is a free, 8-week program designed for families, friends, spouses, and partners of individuals living with a mental health condition. Offered through Canadian Family Supports (CFS), this course provides valuable knowledge, practical skills, and emotional support to help families navigate the challenges of mental illness while maintaining their own well-being.
Originally developed by Dr. Joyce Burland, this program was gifted to NAMI U.S. under the condition that no family should have to pay for it—because families have already paid enough. While the course was initially created in the United States, much of the content has been adapted to reflect Canadian-specific information and resources.
As a designated evidence-based program, research has shown that it significantly improves participants’ coping strategies and problem-solving abilities. What makes this course unique is its peer-to-peer approach—it is taught by trained family members who have firsthand experience supporting a loved one with a mental health condition. Discussions are confidential, creating a safe and supportive space for learning.
The course covers a range of topics, including depressive disorders, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. A formal diagnosis is not required to participate—this program is here to help you gain a deeper understanding of mental health and how to support your loved one effectively.
